Cyrex partnered with Stunlock Studios to deliver penetration testing and high-scale load testing for V Rising, securing multiplayer systems and validating infrastructure performance to support millions of players from early access through full launch.

The Challenge

Securing and Scaling a Real-Time Multiplayer Survival Experience

V Rising is built around real-time multiplayer combat, persistent progression, and player-driven conflict. Castle sieges, PvP encounters, and cooperative gameplay all depend on responsive online services and secure gameplay logic.

For Stunlock Studios, two priorities were non-negotiable:

  • Preventing gameplay exploits that could undermine progression, PvP fairness, or in-game systems.
  • Ensuring infrastructure scalability to support a rapidly growing global player base.

In a live multiplayer survival game, instability or exploitable mechanics quickly impact player trust. Inventory handling, combat validation, and server-side authority must be hardened. At the same time, backend services must withstand significant concurrency without introducing lag, disconnections, or degraded performance.

Stunlock Studios needed validation that their online backbone was ready — not only for launch, but for sustained growth.

Validating Multiplayer Integrity

Our security engineers conducted a focused assessment of V Rising’s online and gameplay services.

The engagement included:

  • Tampering with gameplay-related interactions to identify exploit paths
  • Assessing server-side validation of combat and inventory systems
  • Reviewing data handling and multiplayer logic
  • Evaluating potential manipulation vectors that could impact fair play

We approached the systems from an attacker’s perspective, testing whether client-side interactions could improperly influence server behavior. The goal was to ensure gameplay outcomes were always validated server-side and resistant to tampering.

This process strengthened the integrity of progression systems and competitive PvP environments.

Load Testing

Simulating Real-World Concurrency

With strong player demand expected, Cyrex performed high-scale load testing of V Rising’s online infrastructure.

We simulated large volumes of concurrent player activity to:

  • Stress-test authentication and gameplay services
  • Identify performance bottlenecks
  • Observe system behavior under sustained load
  • Validate stability during peak concurrency scenarios

By pushing services toward their operational limits, we uncovered areas requiring optimization before players experienced them in production.

This proactive validation allowed Stunlock Studios to scale infrastructure confidently and reduce the risk of performance degradation during high-activity windows.
